What is Blackstone Carp?
We are a group of dedicated catch and release carp anglers and National Parks Service Volunteers. Through Blackstone Carp events, workshops, derbies and this website we work with local groups and facilities to promote the sport of carp fishing. We strive to teach not only effective baiting and rigging techniques but also impart the importance of proper care , handling and release practices. Many workshops also focus on the history and ecology of carp and the many misconceptions about them.
This website was developed to enhance our events through-out the year by offering both written and video tutorials, news and articles pertaining to carp fishing and offer a place to showcase our video blogs. We firmly believe that by sharing our obsession, and trust us it is an obsession, we can help support and foster a future for carp and carp angling. That is our mission.

Who is Blackstone carp?
Blackstone Carp is made up of a group of National Parks Service volunteers and dedicated catch and release carp anglers. We are people who not only want to catch big fish, but to share our knowledge with others and help bring recognition and respect to carp fishing. We here at Blackstone carp are experienced but by no means experts, we are always learning, changing and growing and loving every minute of it.
Erik Grubb, founder and front man
![]()
Erik has been fishing for over 20 years, many of them exclusively for carp. He is a National Parks Service volunteer and when not fishing spends much of the winter/spring working with the Blackstone Valley Sugaring Association. He has caught countless fish under 19 pounds, many over 20 and a few above 30 pounds. He co-founded Blackstone Carp as a way to promote the annual carp derby at River Bend farm and from there has extended what the group does in the area. He also creates and edits all the Blackstone Carp Presents: videos.
Nate Fischer, founder and Webmaster
![]()
Nate is newer to fishing but brings his technical skills to bear in creating and running Blackstonecarp.com. He has managed some great catches in his short time fishing including a few just shy of 20 pounds. He also helps with creating many of the materials used during events, as well as works the camera when needed.
Elizabeth St.Germaine, Camera girl and Artistic director
![]()
Liz does not fish, she WILL not fish. We tried, trust us. She does however love being outdoors and runs the camera to get us all the great footage and pictures used on the site and for Blackstone Carp Presents:. She is also a great asset when designing T-shirts, posters, boards or anything else that requires a creative touch.
Patrick Salmon, Volunteer
![]()
What to say about Patrick. He is an exceptional young man, having taken the Masswildlife course, taken a course in Maine to be a junior guide, signed up as a National Parks Service volunteer, attends high school, runs track and still finds time to fish with us on the banks and help with most if not all official events. Simply put, we are lucky to have him on our team.
Brothers Ezra Parent, Volunteer
![]()
and Isaiah Parent, Volunteer
![]()
These two have taken to carp fishing like carp take to corn. Every outing with these boys is a fun adventure and I dare say they could fish side by side with most adults, and possibly out fish them! They have been a great help with all our official and unofficial events and we are happy to have them along.
Simon Macalister, Friend and Chick Pea Master
![]()
While Simon is the undisputed Blackstone Carp chick pea Master, he also holds a degree in luncheon meat and dabbles a bit in the theory of strange smelling dough balls. He came over from the England quite some time ago and brings a great and soothing British accent to our videos. It is an honor for us to call him friend.
Frank Rivelli, Christopher's Dad
![]()
I'll admit that for the first few months that I knew Frank I had no idea what his name was. I simply referred to him as "Christopher's Dad" cause I could remember his son, Christopher's name. I always saw him fishing with his wife and kids around the River Bend Farm and over time we started hanging out and Frank slowly became obsessed with carp fishing. That obsession has led him to some great catches and we look forward to having him around.
