Bait
( 3 Articles )
One of the most important things in carp fishing is bait. Carp eat a variety of things from zooplankon, Phytoplankon, shellfish, larvae and so on. The list is extensive as there is much in the natural world to sustain even the hearty appetite of the carp. The question is with all of the natural food sources how can we entice the carp to take non-natural foods?
The answer is two-fold : Luckily for us carp are creatures of habit and quite curious. This means that when a new food is introduced the carp will usually try it out to determine if it is indeed food. If the new item is tasty and nutritious the carp will continue to seek it out time and time again. Thus is born the two major schools of bait making. The highly nutritious baits and the highly visible "LOOK AT ME!!!!" baits otherwise referred to as instant attractors. There is a lot of information avalable today on boilies and additives and such so I am going to keep this tutorial simple. This is a guide more to help define the types of baits used and how they work as opposed to how to make the "One true bait!" This is a work in progress and I will continue to build on this article as time allows.
